On April 26, Sanjay Manjrekar, former Indian cricketer and now commentator, detailed on social media his views on the current top-10 batters in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). These batters have fared well in scoring runs with fantastic strike rates, which is of very much value in this format of the game.
Somewhat interestingly, Manjrekar has omitted Kohli because of his exceptionally “low” strike rate below 150 in the ongoing season. Otherwise, Kohli is currently in the second position in the race of orange cap as the second-highest run-getter. Manjrekar went on to say on X (formerly Twitter), “When it comes to batting, the only list that matters is big runs with great strike rates.”

Strangely enough, Kohli has played nine innings scoring 392 runs at an average of 65.33, having five half-centuries; however, according to Manjrekar’s criterion, Kohli’s strike rate of 144.11 for this season was reason enough to leave him out. This was the same reason for leaving Sai Sudharsan’s name out of the list, who has hit the orange cap of IPL with 417 runs in eight innings at an average of 52.13, with five fifties to his name.
Languishing below-average ratings surprised some fans as Lucknow Super Giants player Aiden Markram did not find mention in the list. Not much above average with a strike rate over 150, Markram has so far managed to score 326 runs at an average of 36.22 with four fifties. And Rajasthan Royals‘ Yashasvi Jaiswal did not find mention either; he has made 356 runs in nine innings at an average of 39.56, with four fifties and a strike rate of 148.95.
Yet some of his selections included batters that have not really delivered on big occasions for their teams. For instance, while Priyansh Arya from Punjab Kings had a sparkling hundred, he has hardly been able to repeat that level of performance. Heinrich Klaasen, another name on the list, plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is finding it very hard to remain in contention for the playoffs.
On another note, Manjrekar has expressed his views on which bowling attacks are clinching the cup in the tournament as for now. The reason perhaps, he gave a special mention to Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore for performing well in the bowling department. He ended his tweet by stating, “On current form, the 3 best bowling attacks in this IPL are GT, DC & RCB. Is it any surprise these are the top three teams right now?”
