After making false comments about it in regard to the Sanju Samson controversy over the latter’s not being selected for the Indian team to the Champions Trophy, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) imposed the punishment of suspension from its membership for the period of three years on former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth. The announcement was made after a special meeting held at Kochi on 30 April.
Currently, Sreesanth holds co-ownership of a franchise team called Kollam Aeries in the Kerala Cricket League. Team members, including Kollam Aeries, Alappuzha Team Lead, Alappuzha Ripples, were also issued show-cause notices besides Sreesanth. Thereafter, the teams appreciated the KCA for its concerns and managed to satisfy the Association, thus closing the matter. The meeting also suggested that there should be more attention paid to appointing team management members.

Also, the KCA decided to ask for damages from Sanju Samson’s father, Samson Vishwanath, and two others for levelling baseless allegations by using the name of Samson. Show-cause notice was issued to Sreesanth for his comments in a panellist discussion on a Malayalam television channel. While KCA clarified that it was not about the show-cause notice being on the support for Samson, it was on the misleading and defamatory statements made by him.
This was during that discussion when he supported Samson but also made serious charges against KCA. He was followed by criticism against the association for not including Samson in the Kerala squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy. Many believe this did not help his chances for the Champions Trophy.
